The preparation of statutory land use plans and an urban design strategy to guide the future development of a major new town sub-regional retail and commercial centre. The principal objective was to produce a development framework which was flexible enough to respond to changing future needs yet strong enough to produce an imaginative and people friendly town centre development with a positive sense of place.
The urban design strategy involved the provision of key infrastructural elements including a traffic calmed boulevard which would act as a focus for new retail development, a network of public spaces, strong landscape structuring and the identification of sites for key landmark buildings.
The project involved lengthy consultation with all relevant agencies including private developers, public service authorities, local interest groups and local residents. <Back to Projects Index |
