Competition Submission

Redevelopment framework for a semi derelict city centre fringe area.

The proposals included modifications to the existing street pattern and circulation system, including the introduction of a new light rail link, to strengthen links between the city centre and the Albert Docks and increase pedestrian permeability. New buildings were sized and positioned to create a human scale of enclosure, provide key landmark features and house a mixed range of complimentary uses.

A major public square was proposed at the heart of the area to connect with the surrounding public space network and act as a main activity focus. Changes in level were used to accommodate parking underneath the pedestrian level and provide bridged pedestrian access to the Albert Docks.
