Project:

Public Space / Streetscape Improvements, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh

Client:

The City of Edinburgh Council

Services:

Detail Design Proposals

Value:

£100K

The design of two small scale public spaces within the Bruntsfield Conservation Area in Edinburgh to provide attractive ‘pausing places’ and key node points within the townscape of the wider area.

The designs were developed in close consultation with local traders to compliment and interpret the existing architectural style and townscape character of the area through the use of materials, seating and other elements which echo the past in a manner that is, nonetheless, wholly forward looking. A redundant police box is utilised as a new coffee franchise. Metal trellis columns are introduced in one pausing place to define a seating area and strengthen its landmark impact with the same detailing being adapted in the second pausing place to form a trellis screen.
