STRATEGIC + MASTERPLANNING
Community Growth Area Masterplans
Client : South Lanarkshire Council
The production of masterplan development frameworks for 5 community growth areas in South Lanarkshire each of which will accommodate between 1,000 and 2,000 dwellings. The masterplans aim to provide an overriding framework for future development that has a strong sense of place based on the existing characteristics of the site and are well connected to adjacent existing development. They are structured around a permeable layout of pedestrian orientated streets, footpaths and public spaces. Existing valleys are utilised to form greenspace networks and wildlife corridors.
The plans were developed in close collaboration with land-owners, potential developers and relevant development agencies through a series of ‘charette’ style workshop sessions.
The work was carried out by a project team comprising Urban Design Futures, Gillespies, Ironside Farrar and Council officials.
